Blueberry muffins "baking with sandy & livi"

My 9 year old niece went to a cooking camp this summer. This is one of the recipes they made. It's always fun to bake with someone, especially kids. This was a really good recipe. I had some buttermilk left over from the Irish Soda Bread, so I used it as part of the milk.

cucumbers, peppers & Irish soda bread

This is a very simple cucumber salad with dill & white wine vinegar. The cucumbers and dill are from my garden, the white wine vinegar is an Italian import. This is perfect for hot summer days or served next to a spicy dish.

The peppers were grown from seeds purchased from Totally Tomatoes

Cayenne peppers are my favorite hot pepper. They are mild compared to most hot peppers and that suits my cooking. :)

These are so cute and pretty. I haven't used any yet, this is my first year planting them. They will mature to red.

These are from a hot pepper mix blend. They are tiny, only about 3-inches (7.6cm) tall. But that's probably caused by the small pot I have them in.

And lastly, the Irish Soda Bread

This was a completely different and method for me. I guess it will take a couple (at least) of tries to get a good one. :)

A couple of things I do know, I cut the cross way too deep and it needed to bake longer.

I put it back in the oven and it finished baking. It tastes good. I like it. It's not like anything I've made before, really.

hot dog & hamburger buns

I'm not a huge fan of hotdogs and hamburgers. I do like them when cooked outside over charcoal and if they are on buns that don't get squishy. These buns fit the bill.

From this recipe: A Hamburger Bun @ The Fresh Loaf. I used whole wheat flour for about 25% of the flour. I sprinkled half of them with poppyseeds. I love seeds of all kinds. :)

Pugliese Bread from Italy

I love bread that looks (and tastes) like this. One can't have too crispy or too much crust. Pugliese Bread from Italy Pugliese Bread from Italy

This is from "The Italian Baker" by Carol Field. I used the methods here: Artisan Bread Baking. This recipe made two loaves. I preferred the loaf made from the one that wasn't folded (pictured above, the other was eaten). It achieved much better height in the oven.

This is a really nice bread with a hard crust and moist crumb. I love it's rustic form.

bookbinding - 1 section sewing (a)

I need to learn some new binding methods and stitches. I am very much a beginner, so they won't be too complicated. :)

For these two I am using using 1- 2- & 3-Section Sewings Non-Adhesive Binding Volume II by Keith A. Smith. This are made with discarded paper, sewn with twine.
