The 100th year of Franz Waxman's birth

Franz Waxman wrote the musical score for The Bride of Frankenstein, Sunset Boulevard, and many others. He won an Oscar for the score of Sunset Boulevard in 1950 for "Best Music, Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture".
If you don't remember these movies or the music, maybe it's time to rent them again and really listen this time.

soap: ginger lemongrass salt bar & vetiver balsam

Ginger Lemongrass Salt Bar - They're back! Salt bars (also called "spa" bars) are soap to which salt is added. Salt bars have a thin lotion type of lather rather than large fluffy bubbles. The scent is a blend of essential oils. It starts out with Ginger but is sweetened with Orange and brightened with Lemongrass. Can be used in place of your regular soap. There will be a little more lather when used with a washcloth or bath pouf.
Ingredients: Salt, Coconut Oil, Water, Sodium Hydroxide, Olive Oil, Essential Oils of Ginger, Sweet Orange & Lemongrass, Ginger

Vetiver & Balsam - Smokey vetiver with just a hint of lightly sweet peru balsam (essential oils) combine to give this soap an earthy yet clean fragrance. White clay makes for rich and stable suds.
Ingredients: Olive Oil, Palm Kernel Oil, Coconut Oil, Water, Sodium Hydroxide, Rice Bran Oil, Balsam Peru, Vetiver Oil, Amber, White Kaolin Clay

carrotseed clay

Our rose clay soap is back! It is still the great clay soap with a little oat flour, but we have reformulated the essential oil blend. The scent is clean, a bit earthy, slightly floral with a hint of wood thanks to the Amyris.
Ingredients: olive oil, palm kernel oil, coconut oil, water, sodium hydroxide, rice bran oil, essential oils of amyris, bulgarian lavender, patchouli, carrotseed & blood orange, rose kaolin clay, oat flour

Our original Caravan scent is named after a favorite jazz song. It is a complex blend of essential oils, including Frankincense & Myrrh. This is the original Caravan soap. Our Caravan is made with a blend of Frankincense and Myrrh essential oils, rather than a synthetic fragrance. We've colored with powdered Red Sandalwood, Myrrh and Frankincense. The scent is haunting, exotic and mysterious. This is a luxurious soap loved by both men and women.
Ingredients: Olive Oil, Palm Kernel Oil, Coconut Oil, Water, Sodium Hydroxide, Rice Bran Oil, Essential Oils of Frankincense, Palmarosa, Vetiver, Myrrh, Patchouli, Ylang Ylang & Cinnamon Leaf, Madder Root Powder, Myrrh Powder, Frankincense Powder, Red Sandalwood Powder, Benzoin Powder

Here is the song I love so much being perfomed by Duke Ellington and his orchestra. Be sure to watch for the violinist.

one hundredth of a percent

My son John joined the Army during OIF. He was attending PSU at the time. He was doing well there, but decided to enlist in the Army. We weren't surprised. John had been talking to military recruiters since he was 14 years old.
He is currently deployed in Iraq near Tikrit. I am 100% okay with that 99.99% of the time, because I respect him and his choice. But 0.01% of the time I feel like I can't breathe. Today is that 0.01%.

This is one of our most popular soap varieties.
It has a sharp lemony fragrance from Lemon Euclalyptus, Rosemary and Lemongrass essential oils.
But it's main draw is the generous amount of Dead Sea Mud and Sea Clay. We've also added a little kelp, too, to keep with the ocean theme.
The suds are rich & creamy and as always, non-drying.
You can find it here: under Clay in the menu on the left.
Ingredients: Olive Oil, Palm Kernel Oil, Coconut Oil, Water, Sodium Hydroxide, Rice Bran Oil, Dead Sea Mud, Sea Clay, Essential Oils of Lemon-Eucalyptus, Lemongrass & Rosemary, Sea Salt, Kelp, Spirulina

my favorite poem

Complaint Of A Poet Manqué
Aldous Huxley
We judge by appearance merely:
If I can't think strangely, I can at least look queerly.
So I grew the hair so long on my head
That my mother wouldn't know me,
Till a woman in a night-club said,
As I was passing by,
"Hullo, here comes Salome…"

I looked in the dirty gilt-edged glass,
And, oh Salome! there I was -
Positively jewelled, half a vampire,
With the soul in my eyes hanging dizzily
Like the gatherer of proverbial samphire
Over the brink of the crag of sense,
Looking down from perilous eminence
Into a gulf of window night.
And there's straw in my tempestuous hair,
And I'm not a poet: but never despair!
I'll madly live the poems I shall never write.
