Revisited -> mini moo card book

My first attempt at binding moo cards is posted in a blog post here: mini moo card book

I took that one apart and started over. I used embroidery floss this time. I didn't separate it, but used it all as one thread. I used the tickets that come with moo card orders as front and back covers. It's a silly little thing, really. But fun to make and look at. :)

There's no second chance for a first impression, so I'll just leave it at that.

Augeries of Innocence (excerpt)

Every night and every morn
Some to misery are born,
Every morn and every night
Some are born to sweet delight.

Some are born to sweet delight,
Some are born to endless night.

two bookbinding experiments

100_3072
sculpey polymer clay book cover

This is something I have been wanting to try. I used Sculpey polymer clay to make the covers.
The clay wouldn't get as hard as it should have. It's still pliable.

The pages are mat board. This is a rough experiment at best I love things with textures and this certainly has that.

I had a couple swatches of curtain fabric, so I added them, too.

This one was quicker and easier than I expected.

I used construction paper and colored pencils.

Now I have that song "i can sing a rainbow" going through my head...

motorhead soap

Motorhead is a little larger than our usual soap. motorhead It weighs in at 4.5+ oz and contains pumice, poppy seeds, clay oat flour and zinc oxide. It has a bit of scrub, but not enough to scratch. The fragrance is a clean blend of sweet orange and fir needle. I love this blend. The fir needle and sweet orange complement each other very well. This is a good soap for hands and feet. Not recommended for face or body.

Ingredients: olive oil, palm kernel oil, coconut oil, water, sodium hydroxide, pumice, Australian washed blue clay, essential oils of sweet orange & fir needle, oat flour, poppy seeds, zinc oxide

Motorhead.

grape must bread

Remember the grape must / rye sourdough starter blog?

Here is the resulting bread. It's good, but I prefer not to work with rye. It's a little more dense than wheat. I added roasted walnuts and they give it a lovely warm taste.
I do enjoy working with 'wild' yeasts. I plan to pursue that more fully.

This will sit covered overnight to ferment. Tomorrow I will stir it down and allow it to sit overnight again.

I'll post more as things progress. I should be baking bread with this by Tuesday or Wednesday.

moo cards

Moo cards are like business cards only smaller. Moo card dimensions are 28mm by 70mm, which is very roughly 1" x 2 3/4" just to give some idea.

Cards are purchased 100 at a time and you can use up to 100 different images. Info is on the back, so you get full use of the front of the card. They are fun and new enough so that people take notice when you share them. Moo cards may be purchased from MOO.com.

Here are my past and present cards:

black tea leaf soap

I posted this image on my flickr account and it immediately received quite a few views. Here it is complete with description.
black tea leaf
Black Tea Leaf - Our Black Tea Leaf is scented with Clary Sage & Cardamom. It reminds us of a strong cup of black tea. This bar is loaded with black and orange pekoe tea leaves to give it quite a bit of scrub.

Ingredients: olive oil, palm kernel oil, coconut oil, water, sodium hydroxide, rice bran oil, essential oils of clary sage & cardamom, black & orange pekoe tea

-> Please note that our exfoliating soap has quite a bit of texture. If you have a more delicate skin, you may want to avoid this soap or limit it's use to feet and hands.

Cimmeria
by Robert E Howard

I remember
The dark woods, masking slopes of sombre hills;
The grey clouds' leaden everlasting arch;
The dusky streams that flowed without a sound,
And the lone winds that whispered down the passes.

Vista upon vista marching, hills on hills,
Slope beyond slope, each dark with sullen trees,
Our gaunt land lay. So when a man climbed up
A rugged peak and gazed, his shaded eye
Saw but the endless vista--hill on hill,
Slope beyond slope, each hooded like its brothers.

It was gloomy land that seemed to hold
All winds and clouds and dreams that shun the sun,
With bare boughs rattling in the lonesome winds,
And the dark woodlands brooding over all,
Not even lightened by the rare dim sun
Which made squat shadows out of men; they called it
Cimmeria, land of Darkness and deep Night.

It was so long ago and far away
I have forgotten the very name men called me.
The axe and flint-tipped spear are like a dream,
And hunts and wars are like shadows. I recall
Only the stillness of that sombre land;
The clouds that piled forever on the hills,
The dimness of the everlasting woods.
Cimmeria, land of Darkness and the Night.
