bookbinding - the book of the vampires

This book was inspired by the film "Nosferatu" (1922). "The Book of the Vampires" was a small book prop used in the movie. This is the english version (the movie is German).

Nosferatu book can be seen @ 13:45

The Book of the Vampires
"horrible darkness, on the cursed earth from the graveyards of the Black Death."

"Wherefore there is no salvation therefrom except that a woman pure in heart were to make the vampire forget the cock’s first crowing. Of her own free will would she have to give her own blood."

For the record, I'm not "into" vampires. I do like the 1922 version of "Nosferatu".

bookbinding - two books: one french door and one miniature

autumn colors french door book
This french door book has autumn colors and is coptic bound. The cover is copper handmade papers, the signatures are recycled drawing paper, the lining is a beatiful paper from Hollanders (it appears to be out of stock) with chestnuts and mushrooms. The back is covered with brown vinyl.

a mini leather longstitch bound book
A miniature book, 1 1/8 x 1" (2.86cm x 2.5cm), made from an old wallet of hubby's. The leather is nice, smooth, pliable and soft after years of service. This paper is very thin calligraphy practice paper, there are 128 pages (front & back) in this tiny book. The closure is a brad and braided natural color waxed thread. The binding is a very simple longstitch.

scottish shortbread

across the surface
I love shortread because of it's simplicity. There are only four necessary ingredients: unsalted butter, sugar, flour and a little salt (three if you use salted butter and omit the salt, but the unsalted butter yields better results). This recipe had a couple of extra ingredients. It called for a little rice flour and vanilla. I bought the rice flour to use for paste, so I already had it. :)

I have a shortbread pan that I never used. Now that it's a little cooler, I thought it was time to break it out.
I used this recipe. I let it cook a little longer so it would be easier to get out of the pan. Once the pan is used more, I won't have to worry about sticking. I am very happy at the level of detail here. Lucky me for choosing a good recipe. :)

pink formica dinette set

pink formica table & chair pink formica table & chair

I saw this at an ASPCA flea market and couldn't pass it up. I tried, but I couldn't. At some point the chairs will need recovered, but until then, I'm enjoying the retro/vintage pinkness.

PAYPAL IS THE WORST COMPANY IN THE WORLD

Another example of Paypal customer service. Check out what John Cole is dealing with.

I no longer deal with paypal due to a customer service issue I had last year. I asked a simple question about an error in my account and the tech support threw a temper tantrum via email. The problem worked itself out.
