plum galette

plum galette

I had about three pounds of gorgeous, ripe, juicy, completely flavorless plums. I rarely cook with fruit. I prefer to eat it fresh. But these plums have no flavor, so I made plum galette. The plum galette (while not pretty, it's my first) is much tastier than the plums are. :)

I used the all butter crust listed in the recipe. It's a bit sturdier than my usual crust and was easy to work with.

I still have about two pounds of plums. I'm thinking of making a few more of these in a smaller size and then freezing them for this winter when fruit isn't so good.

the book of the vampires (wip)

The Book of the Vampires
"horrible darkness, on the cursed earth from the graveyards of the Black Death."

"Wherefore there is no salvation therefrom except that a woman pure in heart were to make the vampire forget the cock’s first crowing. Of her own free will would she have to give her own blood."

This book was inspired by the 1922 film, "Nosferatu". It was a small book/prop used in the movie. This is the english version (the movie is german).

There are a few book excerpts shown in the film. I will add those to this book.

Nosferatu book can be seen @ 13.45

herbs and peppers from my side porch garden

We have a little porch off of the kitchen of our little house. The porch receives afternoon sun and is a great place for plants in pots. Every year I grow herbs, peppers, one pot with a tomato plant and morning glories. I love it for its close proximity to the kitchen for cooking. But most of all, I love the fragrance coming in through the screen door.

neon cupcakes

These are made with Betty Crocker white cake mix and Pillsbury vanilla icing. We did this at my mother's house, so I thought mixes would make less mess. This was a joint effort with my niece and mother. :)

I knew these would be bright, but I didn't expect this bright. :) (sorry so blurry, Livi wanted her cupcake back)

bookbinding - bright articulated with black paper

This is a fun articulated book. Made with black canson paper, sewn with fuchsia waxed nn thread and covered with a bright citrus print fabric cover. The book pages are shorter on one side.

This is something I've been wanting to try for a while. Someone asked me why I wanted it to have the extra fold. I realize it weakens the cover over the paper, but I like movement. And I like to experiment. Honestly, where would we be without experimentation?
